Electrostatic Sail Coaster

Contrado

  • Surface of a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) electrostatic sail, or radial motion actuator. MEMS devices are constructed on a microscopic scale, typically from silicon or polymers, and are used in, for example, sensors and optical displays. This prototype has a special structure in the centre that has a negative Poisson ratio, meaning that it expands laterally when it is stretched, unlike most materials which normally get thinner when stretched.
