- Atoms on the surface of a metal, in the style of Aboriginal art. This highly creative and unique design was made in several steps. First, the material was imaged using field ion microscopy, which shows the arrangement of surface atoms in the form of bright spots. The black and white image was then projected onto canvas and each dot oil-painted by hand. Some artistic license was used in the interpretation. Finally, the resulting painting was turned into a digital image
